What do we do with a little wisdom lent?
Okay, I’m committed to telling at least one new story a week…stop smiling because my commitment to writing weekly is like my commitment to not eating chocolate ever again. Wouldn’t we all like to say, “It’s not my fault!”
I read stories from many gifted writers here on Medium every day about perseverance and consistency. Kind words/advice, and at this point, they sound a lot like the salt and pepper basics of just about any cuisine you cook in your kitchen. Writing looks like it's just like the kitchen; if you preserve and learn to be consistent in following the recipes, anyone can become a decent cook/writer.
I’m not a Johnny come lately to the failure to take up the ‘consistency and perseverance thing’… many, many years ago I had the privilege of sitting in the office of one of the greatest film directors of all time. At the time that I was sitting in his office, he was also the head of the Motion Picture Association of America. A very accomplished, kind, and wise man, he had read my first script as a favor to a friend of his (how most scripts get read by the great/wise of the moving pictures industry). He said that I showed talent, but he could not help me while I was living in Chicago…
